WordPress website development

We build WordPress websites for companies that want to manage their own content with ease without giving up technical quality. Custom design, a well-considered content structure, integrations and a controlled number of plugins let WordPress serve as a stable foundation and not a system assembled at random. We also take over existing projects and put them in order.

A plugin is not an architecture

The WordPress ecosystem has ready-made plugins for many needs, but every additional component becomes a technical dependency of the project. We assess when a maintained plugin is the most sensible solution and when it is better justified to build the function in the project's own code. The aim is not WordPress without plugins - the aim is an architecture that can be understood, in which every dependency has a reason.

The block editor and your design system

We build pages in the WordPress block editor using blocks and patterns designed for your design. Your content editors assemble new pages from them, and the layout, spacing and colours stay as the design intended. We use heavy page builders with caution, as they can slow a site down and make your content depend on a single plugin.

What you get

Easy content management
We set up the content types, fields and editing logic so that your team can manage everyday text, images and the content planned for the site without programming.
Speed
We work on the code, database queries, caching, images, front-end assets and the server environment. We base optimisation on measurements, not on the promises of a single plugin.
Security
We plan updates of WordPress, the theme and plugins, access, backups and checks so that maintenance does not become a risk to a working website.
Extensibility
WordPress can be connected to WooCommerce, a CRM, data sources, marketing tools and other systems where your company's process and the project architecture call for it.

Is WordPress right for your project?

Send us the address of your existing website or a short description of the new project. We will assess the main requirements or the technical situation and reply within one working day.

The WordPress development process

Talking through the task

We establish the website's purpose, content, users, administration needs and the systems it has to work with.

Designing the solution

We define the content structure, the user journey, the design, the theme architecture and the components required.

Build

We build the theme, content structure, functionality and integrations, using only dependencies that are justified for the project.

Testing and preparing for launch

We test the main scenarios, different devices, performance and technical SEO, and add the content that is needed.

Handover and maintenance

We explain how to administer the content and, after launch, can continue with updates, monitoring, troubleshooting and development.

We also take over existing WordPress projects and put them in order

If the website was built by another team, you do not automatically have to start again. We check the WordPress and PHP versions, the theme, plugins, custom code, database, server environment and backups. If the project is viable, we set the priorities and continue development from the existing foundation.

More than one language

For multilingual websites we use proven solutions such as WPML or Polylang and plan how translations will be managed. Each language has its own addresses, menu and metadata, and we link the language versions for search engines with hreflang tags, so that people land on the page in their own language.

Security is a maintenance question

Most publicly known WordPress vulnerabilities are in plugins and themes, and far fewer in WordPress core. So we test updates in a staging environment first, keep backups, give administrators only the permissions they need and recommend two-factor authentication. If you don't maintain the site yourself, we can take this on as part of website maintenance, and for an outdated site the first step is security updates.

Hosting and environment

The server has a large influence on how fast and secure a WordPress site is. We recommend hosting with a supported PHP version, daily backups, HTTPS and a staging environment where changes can be checked before they go live. If you already have a hosting contract, we assess whether the current environment suits the project.

Frequently asked questions

Why choose WordPress in particular?
WordPress is a justified choice when easy content management and wide scope for integrations matter to your company. We do not choose it automatically - if the core of the project is complex business logic or a specific system architecture, we may recommend a different technical solution.
Can a WordPress site be fast?
Yes. Performance is affected by the code of the theme and plugins, database queries, images, external scripts, caching and the server environment. We start optimisation with measurements and by finding the cause, not by installing plugins at random.
Can you put an existing WordPress site in order?
Yes. When taking over a project, we first check the versions, the theme, plugins, custom code, database, server environment and the most significant security and maintenance risks. If it is justified to continue with the existing project, a rebuild is not required.
Is WordPress suitable for an online store?
Yes, for many projects. WooCommerce is the e-commerce solution for WordPress, but before a larger store we assess the catalogue, the pricing and product logic, the order flow, the integrations and the expected load. There is more on this on the WooCommerce development page.
Will we be able to edit the content ourselves?

Yes. We set up content types, fields and blocks so that your team can manage text, images, new pages and other everyday content without programming. After launch we show you how, and we give users the roles and permissions that fit their work.

Is WordPress secure?

Security depends more on maintenance than on the platform itself. The most common risks are outdated or poorly maintained plugins and themes, weak administrator accounts and the hosting environment. With regular, tested updates, well-managed access and backups, WordPress can be used safely for a company's main website too.

Can you move our website to WordPress from another platform?

Yes. When migrating, we plan how content and images will be moved, the URL structure and 301 redirects from the old addresses to keep the visibility built up in search engines, as well as forms, integrations and analytics. Before launch we compare the old and new sites so that nothing important is lost.

How long does it take to build a WordPress website?

The timeline depends on the number of pages, the amount of design and content work, integrations and whether existing content has to be moved. A simple WordPress website takes less time than a multilingual site with custom functionality, so we state the timeline in the proposal once the requirements have been discussed.
