An app is a product, not an add-on to a website
The user sees screens on a phone, but behind them there is often authentication, user profiles, a database, an administration area, payments, notifications, analytics and integrations. If your company already has a working platform, we connect the app to its backend and API. If there is no server side yet, we include building it in the project.
The Apple App Store and Google Play have their own technical, content and privacy requirements, so we plan publication and ongoing maintenance during development. An app is not a file that is made once - operating systems, SDKs, libraries and external services change.

Design
We design the interface for the main usage scenarios, and also the states for errors, connection problems, permissions and other non-standard situations.
Development
We choose a cross-platform or native approach according to the product's requirements, build the app and the server-side parts it needs and test on real devices.
Publication
We prepare the builds and the technical information required and help with submission to the App Store and Google Play. The final approval is given by the platform concerned.
Ongoing development
After launch we monitor technical compatibility, update dependencies, fix problems and develop the next versions of the product.
How much does it cost to build a mobile app?
The cost depends on more than the number of screens. User accounts and permissions, payments, maps, offline work, push notifications, the backend, the administration area, integrations and data migration all count. Once the requirements have been talked through, we define a justified first version and prepare the scope of work and an estimate.
Will the app work on both iPhone and Android phones?
Yes. We build apps for both platforms. For many business projects a cross-platform approach with a substantial share of common code is suitable, and we consider native development when performance, platform integrations or other technical requirements justify it.
Can the app be connected to an existing online store or business system?
Yes. If your company already has a platform, we assess its API and data architecture and connect the app to the existing data. If the server-side system needed does not exist, we can include the backend, database and administration area in the project as well.
What happens to the app after launch?
After publication an app has to be maintained. iOS, Android, the app stores' requirements, SDKs, libraries and external services change. We can monitor compatibility, update dependencies, analyse errors and continue developing the product.
How long does it take to build a mobile app?
The timeline depends on the number of screens and features, the server side, integrations and the store review before publishing. It usually pays to launch a first version with the key features sooner and develop the rest based on user feedback. We state the timeline in the proposal once the requirements have been discussed.
Flutter or native - which should we choose?
Flutter lets you build an app for both iOS and Android from a single codebase, which often reduces the amount of development and maintenance. Native development can be the better fit when the app needs deep integration with device features or particular performance. We make the choice based on the project's requirements.
Who will own the app?
We recommend registering the App Store and Google Play developer accounts in your company's name, and the rights to the code and design are set out in the contract. That way the app, its user data and the publishing rights stay under your control.

For example, for the Maternity Hospital Foundation we built Droši zināt, an app for teenagers and young people - from the design and illustrations to publishing on the App Store and Google Play. For the Nature Conservation Agency we built LDT Gids, the audio guide to the Līgatne nature trails, which also works offline, and we have maintained and developed it since 2021. Both apps are built with Flutter.
