An app where teenagers can learn about difficult topics safely
Droši zināt (Know Safely) is a mobile app for teenagers and young people about relationships, pregnancy, the body and health. We built it for the Maternity Hospital Foundation, which ran the project with the Children's Hospital Foundation and the Latvian Midwives Association, supported by the Society Integration Foundation with NextGenerationEU funds. Our work covered the design, illustrations, development for Android and iOS phones, publishing and maintenance.

The brief
Teenagers, especially pregnant minors, need reliable information in a language and form that feels close to them, and a place to ask questions without fear of being recognised. The foundation wanted an app that is safe, easy to understand and invites exploring rather than reading long texts.
02, Chapter
The app is a home
Young people choose a room: the hall, living room, kitchen, bathroom, a girl's room or a boy's room. Each room has its own topics with videos, articles and contacts prepared by the project partners and public health sources, and a progress bar shows how many have been viewed.
We designed every screen and drew the room illustrations and icons in a bright style that speaks to teenagers without becoming childish. Videos play inside the app, articles open in the app's own browser, and the first time a room opens, a short guide shows how to find your way around it.

Quizzes, rewards and QR codes
Once all of a room's topics have been viewed, a quiz on those topics opens. The results come together on the "Achievements and points" page, with a score for each room and a total that can be shared with friends. The app also has a QR code reader for scanning a code and opening the linked content.

A question without a name
In the "Ask a question anonymously" section young people can send their own question. We added a privacy notice and a link to the foundation's data protection policy to the form, so it is clear what happens to the question.
We built the app with Flutter, so the Android and iOS versions share one codebase. In spring 2025 we handed it over to the foundation, trained its staff, and have kept maintaining the app and adding new features.
